National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC):

    • The Supreme Court has asked the Central Government to consider establishing regional and circuit benches of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC). The objective is to help ensure the speedy disposal of consumer cases.

    • Establishment: It was established in 1988 under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.
    • Chairperson: It is headed by a sitting or retired Judge of the Supreme Court or a sitting or retired Chief Justice of a High Court.
    • Jurisdiction: Under Section 21 of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, the NCDRC has jurisdiction to hear consumer complaints involving a value exceeding ₹1 crore, while it also has appellate and revisional jurisdiction over the orders of State Consumer Commissions and District Forums.
