About the Project:

  • It will be set up by UP Industrial Department under Public Private partnership (PPP) model at a cost of approximately Rs 8 crore.
  • It is scheduled to be completed by April, 2026 with target production capacity of approximately 50,000 metric tons of yarn per year.
  • Significance of the Project:
  • Beneficial for Exporters and Farmers: Exporters from the Purvanchal region will have access to a local wool supply, reducing their dependence on states like Rajasthan and Kashmir for carpet wool.
  • They will obtain affordable wool for carpet weaving, thereby lowering the overall cost of carpets.
  • Sheep farmers will also get a good price for their wool.
  • Industrial Recovery: The carpet industry, affected by US tariffs and rising import costs of wool from countries like New Zealand and Australia, will have a chance to recover.
  • Employment Generation: The establishment of this plant is projected to provide direct employment to approximately two hundred youth, also more than five lakh sheep herders will receive indirect employment.
  • The proposed plant will also benefit Private blanket factory operators in Sonbhadra and Varanasi, they will get wool at cheaper prices and cost of woolen blankets will also be reduced.
