Context:
In April 2025, the Meerut Zone of the State Tax Department recorded the highest GST collection in the country, with ₹211.87 crore, topping the state rankings.

- Meerut topped the state, followed by Corporate Circle Headquarters in Lucknow in second place, Gautam Buddha Nagar in third, Lucknow Second Zone in fourth, and Bareilly Zone in fifth.
- According to data from the State Tax Department’s portal, Meerut’s GST collection in April 2024 stood at Rs 147.34 crore, with a revenue target of Rs 287.08 crore set for April 2025.
- The officers of the Meerut State Tax Department surpassed this target, securing the top position in the state by collecting Rs 211.87 crore in revenue.
- The Excise Department had also made a contribution to the government treasury with its revenue collection in March.
- In April, the department generated Rs 103 crore from liquor sales in the district.
- This is an increase from the Rs 78.96 crore collected in April of the previous year as compared to last April, the department received Rs 42.04 crore more in revenue.
