Context:

Bundelkhand Solar Energy Limited (BSUL) will invest Rs 400 crore to set up a 100 MW solar power plant in Mirzapur district, aiming to boost energy supply and generate employment.

  • This project is being launched through the joint efforts of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Private Limited (NHPC) and the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Agency (UPNEDA).
  • It is one of the 55 solar parks proposed by the Ministry of Non-Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, which has been allocated to BSUL.
  • 200 hectares of land will be required for the plant, and the district administration along with the UP government will assist in acquiring it.
  • The power generated will be connected to the grid through 132 kV connectivity, enhancing the district’s energy infrastructure.
  • A 100 MW solar plant is already functional in Dadar Kalan village of Mirzapur, which was constructed in collaboration with a French company.
    • This plant was jointly inaugurated by the Prime Minister and the French President in 2018.
  • This project will boost development in the rural areas of Mirzapur and also encourage the use of clean and sustainable energy.
