  • This year, the Conference focussed on the theme “Standardisation and Optimisation of Urban Transport Solutions”. 
  • The 17th UMI Conference & Exhibition 2024 was organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs through the Institute of Urban Transport (India) and with the support of the Government of Gujarat and Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.
  • The exhibition comprising display of best practices in urban transport in India and aboard, latest urban transport technologies, attracted more than 2200 delegates including more than 50 participants from abroad.
  • During the closing ceremony, Gurugram, Haryana was announced as the venue of the 18th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2025.

Award Categories & Winners

  • At the 17th UMI, Bhubaneswar won the ‘City with the Best Public Transport System’, while Srinagar was selected as ‘City with the Best Non-Motorized Transport System’.

About Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition

The Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, is a flagship annual event in India.

UMI stems from the 2006 National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP), which emphasizes enhancing State and city-level capacities to address urban transport challenges and develop sustainable solutions.

  • The inaugural conference was held in 2008 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. 

The event includes four main components – Conference, Exhibition, Research Symposium, and Awards for Excellence in Urban Transport.

The Awards are given in 12 categories, whose winners are recommended by the Awards Selection Committee headed by the high-level officers of the Government and experts of the field.

i. City with the Most Sustainable Transport System;

ii. City with the Best Public Transport System;

iii. City with the Best Non-Motorised Transport System;

iv. City with Best Safety and Security System & Record;

v. City with the Best Intelligent Transport System (ITS);

vi. City with the Most Innovative Financing Mechanism;

vii. City with Best Record of Public Involvement in Transport;

viii. City with the Best Freight Transport system;

ix. City with the Best Green Transport Initiative;

x. Metro Rail with the Best Multimodal Integration;

xi. Metro Rail with the Best Passenger Services and Satisfaction; and

xii. Running trophy for the State / UT, which has Implemented Best Urban Transport projects during the previous year.
