Context:
The 14th Asia-Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users’ Conference (AOMSUC-14) is being held from December 4-6, 2024, in New Delhi, India.
- Hosted By: The conference, hosted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Ministry of Earth Sciences.
- Aims
- Promote the importance of satellite observations.
- Advance satellite remote sensing science.
- Climate and environmental monitoring.
- Numerical weather data assimilation, prediction, and disaster monitoring.
- Participants: There will be about 150 participants from different countries, including national participants.
- Historical contexts:
- The inaugural AOMSUC took place in Beijing, China, in 2010. Since then, the conference has been held annually in different locations across the Asia-Oceania region.
- In June 2016, the Permanent Representations of Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Russia, and Korea, along with the WMO Secretary-General, signed the Memorandum on the Asia-Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users’ Conference during the 68th WMO Executive Council session in Geneva.
- The 2016 Memorandum formalized the AOMSUC as a permanent mechanism for facilitating dialogue and improved collaboration among the space agencies and user communities in the Asia-Oceania region.
- Previous Host Countries: China (2010, 2014, 2021), Japan (2011, 2015, 2022), Korea (2012, 2016, 2023), Australia (2013, 2019), Russia (2017), and Indonesia (2018).
