Recent Context:

The  Prime Minister of India  hoisted the saffron flag atop the 191-foot-high ‘shikhar’ of Ayodhya Ram Temple on November 25, 2025.

  • During the ceremony, the Prime Minister highlighted that “The city of Ayodhya is witnessing another turning point in India’s cultural consciousness. This moment of flag hoisting celebration at the pinnacle of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple is unique”.

Design and Significance of the Flag:

  • Designed by: The flag, 22 feet long and 11 feet wide, has been crafted by a parachute specialist from Ahmedabad to withstand high-altitude conditions on the 161-foot temple summit.
  • Specifications: Weighing between two and three kilograms, the flag has been engineered for durability on the 42-foot flagpole.
  • Material Used: It is made from parachute-grade nylon interwoven with silk satin threads and is able to resist intense sunlight, heavy rainfall, and humidity fluctuations.
  • Significance: The flag bears the image of a radiant sun symbolising Lord Ram’s valour, an ‘Om’ symbol, and the Kovidara tree.
  • Om signifies the eternal spiritual sound and cosmic vibration.
  • The Sun symbol marks Lord Rama’s Suryavanshi lineage, invoking divine energy.
  • The Kovidara tree, believed to be a hybrid of the Mandar and Parijat created by Rishi Kashyap, symbolises ancient knowledge and the continuity of sacred traditions.
