Context: 

Recently, the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti has launched India’s largest sanitation survey- Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2025 in Delhi.

Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2025

  • SSG 2025 is a National Rural Sanitation Survey
  • Organised by: Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti

Objective:

  • To assess the effectiveness and impact of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM)
  • To rank all States, Union Territories, and Districts based on sanitation performance

Core Objective

  • SSG 2025 will rigorously evaluate the on-ground status of rural sanitation
  • Special focus on sustaining the Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus Model outcomes achieved under SBM-Gramin (SBM-G).
  • The assessment will include sampling village evaluations, surveying households and public places to gauge their status based on various cleanliness parameters.
  • To provide a national ranking of all States, UTs, and Districts. 
  • Rankings based on quantitative and qualitative sanitation parameters outlined under SBM Phase II. 
  • It will also assess the functionality of sanitation infrastructure, including Plastic Waste Management Units, GOBARdhan plants, and Faecal Sludge Management systems across districts and states.
