Context: Uttar Pradesh’s flagship initiative, Mission Shakti, has successfully reached over 9 crore women since its launch in October 2020.

- The campaign has completed five phases, implementing large-scale measures to promote women’s safety, welfare, and empowerment, supported by coordinated efforts across various departments and institutions.
- Government data revealed:
- The campaign successfully prevented 1,707 potential child marriages.
- The Women’s Helpline (1090) addressed 7.78 lakh cases.
- One Stop Centres provided assistance in 2.10 lakh instances of violence and abuse.
- The Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana benefited 23.40 lakh girls across the state.
- In infrastructure drive:
- The campaign set up 100 pink police booths and expanded the 1090 call centre with 80 additional terminals.
- To enhance hygiene and safety for women, over 1,100 pink toilets were constructed in 189 urban local bodies across the state.
- The government prosecuted 27,425 cases of crimes against women and minors, including 11,254 cases under the POCSO Act and more than 3,700 dowry death cases.
- In aspirational districts, more than 2 lakh girls were identified and provided support for their holistic development.
- The state achieved an 84% rate of institutional deliveries, demonstrating improved access to maternal healthcare.
- Mission Shakti’s outreach was amplified through special events, awareness drives, and training sessions in villages, schools, colleges, and urban wards.
- Workshops on cybercrime, domestic violence, legal rights, mental health, and financial literacy were held by departments such as Police, Health, Education, Transport, and Panchayati Raj.
- The campaign has engaged more than 30 departments, including those of health and home affairs, along with support from social organizations and educational institutions.
