• Recently, the Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, inaugurated the multilingual feature of the e-Shram portal, enabling access in all 22 Scheduled Languages.
  • This initiative is in line with the goal of making e-Shram a ‘One-Stop Solution’ for unorganised workers in India, offering extensive social protection.
  • The e-Shram portal was upgraded using the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MEITY) Bhashini project, which previously supported only English, Hindi, Kannada, and Marathi.
  • The portal now serves a broader perspective, ensuring that workers across the country can register and benefit from various government schemes in their native languages.

About the e-shram portal

  • Ministry: Launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment on 26th August 2021.
  • Aims: It is designed to create a comprehensive centralised National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW).
  • Objectives:
  • Enhance access to social security schemes and benefits for unorganised workers (agriculture, construction, domestic work, and street vending).
  • Skill development opportunities.
  • Promote financial inclusion through direct benefit transfers and digital payments.

Eligibility for Registering on E-Shram Portal

  • Age: Between 16 and 59 years.
  • Not be a member of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) or Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).
  • Aadhaar card, a valid mobile number linked to Aadhaar, and a bank account.
