Context: To bring about historic improvements in the development and traffic system of the capital Lucknow, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is developing an ambitious 250-kilometer-long, six-lane road project called Vigyan Path.
- This initiative is set to drive significant improvements in the development and traffic infrastructure of Lucknow.
- According to the LDA’s chief town planner, Vigyan Path will be made part of the State Capital Region (SCR) by 2027.
- This highway, named Vigyan Path, will be dedicated to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
- The project’s name is inspired by his famous slogan, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan”.
About Vigyan Path
- Enhancing Connectivity: This 250-kilometer long highway will ensure adequate traffic for both heavy vehicles and general traffic, thus improving connectivity and ease travel across the region.
- Integration into the State Capital Region (SCR) Plan: The LDA is incorporating this project into the detailed project report for the State Capital Region (SCR), which is being developed along the lines of the National Capital Region (NCR).
- This will ease travel for commuters and provide relief from traffic jams.
- Stimulating Regional Growth: Vigyan Path is not just a road, but a new backbone of regional development. This strategic route will provide direct connectivity from Lucknow to Hardoi, Sitapur, Barabanki, Rae Bareli, and Unnao fostering balanced regional growth across central Uttar Pradesh.
- Once Vigyan Path is completed, the travel distance and time will be reduced by almost half.
- Each district will be able to reach the state capital in just 60 to 75 minutes, significantly improving mobility and accessibility for residents and businesses alike.
- Catalyst for Economic Development: The project also proposes the establishment of 20 development nodes, which will include industrial parks, educational institutions, health centers, and commercial complexes.
- These nodes will serve as engines of economic activity, attracting new investments and creating vast employment opportunities in Lucknow and its surrounding districts.
- Environmentally Sustainable Design: The project’s design will also incorporate environmental protection, solar lighting, and green belts, ensuring it serves as a model for future environmentally friendly corridors.
- A Big Leap Towards Becoming a Global City: This effort by the Lucknow Development Authority is being considered a major step towards making the capital a global city.
- According to LDA officials, the construction of this path will give Lucknow’s economy a new impetus.
- Industrial activity in the surrounding districts will increase, educational and health institutions will become accessible, and the transportation of agricultural products will also accelerate.
