BLW has secured an export order for ten 3300 HP AC–AC diesel-electric locomotives for Mozambique, with the execution of the order being carried out through M/s RITES.
The contract covers the manufacture and export of all ten locomotives.
The dispatch schedule reflects steady progress:
Two locomotives dispatched in June 2025
Third locomotive in September 2025
Fourth locomotive in October 2025
Fifth locomotive on 12 December 2025
Sixth locomotive on 15 December 2025
The exported locomotives are 3300 HP Cape Gauge (1067 mm) AC–AC diesel-electric units, designed for operations at speeds of up to 100 kmph.
They incorporate international-standard, driver-centric features, including a refrigerator, hot plate, mobile holder, and a modern ergonomic cab design, ensuring higher levels of comfort, safety, and operational efficiency.
Expanding Global Presence
Since 2014, BLW has exported locomotives to countries such as Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Mozambique, contributing to the modernisation of their railway infrastructure.
More broadly, India has supplied metro coaches, passenger coaches, bogies, locomotives, and other critical railway equipment to multiple regions:
Europe: United Kingdom, France, Spain, Germany, Italy
Africa: Mozambique, Republic of Guinea, South Africa
Other regions: Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Australia, Canada, and Mexico.
