Context: : The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to approve 12 new major food processing projects, attracting an estimated investment of ₹250 crore to boost the state’s agro-industrial sector.
- After reviewing these project proposals, the Appraisal Committee approved them under the Uttar Pradesh Food Processing Industry Policy-2023.
- They will now be presented to the State Level Empowered Committee (SLEC) for approval.
- At the meeting, the Additional Chief Secretary presented a certificate of appreciation to investor of HVR Foods, Jaunpur, for fully establishing and commencing production of a modern spice production unit.
Distribution of Proposals Across Food Processing Categories:
- Four for Individual Quick Freezing (IQF)
- Two for bakery units,
- One each for lollipop candy fish feed, groundnut ball, ice cream, ready-to-eat products, and tomato ketchup.
Projects Sanctioned Under the Uttar Pradesh Food Processing Industry Policy, 2023
- During the meeting, it was informed that 416 projects worth ₹10,000 crore have been approved under the policy so far.
- Of these, 70 projects are operational and producing electricity, and 100 more are expected to become operational in the next six months.
- Investors are prioritizing solar-powered plants.
- Solar power plants have been installed in 58 projects so far.
