Context: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has instructed officials to create a Digital Agriculture Ecosystem in the state  to strengthen the agricultural sector by promoting self-reliance, sustainability, and digital innovation.

  • The proposed system will provide real-time, integrated access to data on crops, weather, seeds, irrigation, fertilizers, insurance, markets, logistics, and institutional services
  • This decision was taken during a review meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Growth and Rural Enterprise Ecosystem Strengthening Project (UP-Agrees).
  • This policy will be formulated in accordance with national technical standards, with a focus on establishing a secure cyber infrastructure and promoting innovation-led research.
  • This initiative will align with the vision of “From Agriculture to Industry,” which highlights the importance of value addition, agro-processing, and local employment generation.
  • The project will be coordinated by the Uttar Pradesh Diversified Agriculture Support Project (UP DASP) in collaboration with agricultural universities, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).

About UP-AGREES Project

  • The Project  is a World Bank-funded initiative with a total duration of six years and an estimated budget of approximately ₹4,000 crore.
  • Key Areas: The project primarily focuses on the development of the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
  • Objective: The project aims to promote sustainable growth aligned with changing climatic conditions, strengthen market linkages, enhance productivity, optimise resource use, and support the development of agro-based industries.
  • Coverage: It is being implemented in 21 Districts from Eastern Uttar Pradesh and 7 Districts from Bundelkhand.
  • Target: The project targets the development of around 90,000 hectare for fish farming, benefiting nearly 1 lakh families.
