Context:
Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) has launched an initiative to power industrial zones with solar energy.

- Under this initiative, UPSIDA has selected 13 new locations for the installation of solar power plants.
- This step supports the objectives of the state’s Solar Energy Policy–2022, which focuses on lowering energy costs, reducing carbon emissions, and advancing environmental sustainability.
- The selected locations are: Surajpur Site-5, EPIP (Gautam Buddha Nagar), TDS City (Ghaziabad), SEZ (Moradabad), Baghpat, Agra, Mathura, Jhansi, Prayagraj, and Shahjahanpur are key industrial hubs set to be transformed into solar-powered zones.
- As a first step towards its “Solar Industrial Zones” initiative, UPSIDA has installed a 150-kilowatt solar power plant at its Kanpur headquarters, with an investment of ₹82.98 lakh.
- To improve both functionality and visual appeal, the authority is rolling out its “Solar Path” initiative.
- It will involve installing off-grid solar lighting systems throughout industrial zones to ensure well-illuminated pathways at night.
- This initiative benefits the environment while also cutting operational costs.
- UP aims to advance clean energy, decrease emissions, and reduce electricity expenses.
