Context: The Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, for technical cooperation to impart global-level technical skills to the state’s youth.

- The agreement was officially concluded at the IIT Roorkee campus in Uttarakhand, according to the Uttar Pradesh government.
- As part of this collaboration, youth from the state will benefit from expert mentorship by IIT Roorkee through access to advanced technical training, innovation-focused learning, research opportunities, and startup support.
- The initiative aims to improve the employability of young individuals and prepare them to compete successfully at both national and international levels.
- The MoU was signed by the Additional Mission Director representing UPSDM, along with authorised representatives from IIT Roorkee.
About Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM)
- It was established on 21st December 2013.
- Under the skill development policy, five centrally assisted schemes and one state government scheme are being integrated through the UPSDM.
- The programme aims to provide personalised training to youth across the state who, due to economic or other constraints, could not study beyond Class 5 and remain unemployed because of limited skills or expertise in any specific area.
- Arrangements have been made to provide free short term employable training through providers and government training institutes.
- Objective of the program-
- To organize the efforts of the institutions established by the State and Central Government engaged in skill development training.
- To provide free vocational training related to employment to the youth in the age group of 14 to 35 with the participation of government and private training institutions.
- To enable the beneficiaries trained from the training group to be employed in wage employment or self-employment so that they can contribute to the economic development of the nation.
