Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the ‘Pradhan Mantri Sarvodaya Yojana’.
About Pradhan Mantri Sarvodaya Yojana:
- Under it, one crore households will get rooftop solar power systems.
- It will not only reduce the electricity bill of the poor and middle class but will also make India self-reliant in the field of energy.
- It is implemented by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
Current status:
- According to information presented to the Lok Sabha, as of July 31, 2023, only 2.2 GW worth of installation was reportedly installed in Indian homes.
- There is no centrally compiled estimate of the number of households in India with rooftop solar installation.
