Context:
Recently, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) inaugurated the Quantum Technology Research Centre (QTRC) at Metcalfe House, Delhi.
About the Quantum Technology Research Centre
- The facility aims to further strengthen indigenous quantum capabilities for strategic and defence applications.
- The QTRC is equipped with advanced experimental set-ups to drive R&D in critical quantum technology domains.
Key capabilities include

- Laser Characterisation: Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) and Distributed Feedback (DFB) Lasers.
- Quantum Communication and Optics:
- Test-beds for evaluating single-photon sources
- Experimental platforms for Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) to enable ultra-secure communication in the post-quantum era
- Characterisation setup for Micro Fabricated Alkali Vapor Cells
- Spearheading Organisation: Scientific Analysis Group (SAG), DRDO.
