Context:
Recently, the Minister of Finance, officially launched the dedicated mobile application for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS).

- To encourage wider participation, recently over 80 outreach events have been conducted across colleges, ITIs, and Rozgar Melas.
- The Union Budget 2024-25 announced that the scheme will begin with a pilot project for the financial year 2024-25, targeting 1.25 lakh internships.
- The app allows users to participate in the Referral Program introduced by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS)

- The Government of India launched the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) on October 3, 2024.
- This initiative aims to provide one crore young Indians with 12-month paid internships in the nation’s top companies over the next five years, thereby bridging the gap between academic learning and industry demands.
- Candidates can also apply for up to three internships at the same time through the app.
- PMIS aspires to cultivate a workforce that is both skilled and adaptable to the evolving global economic landscape.
- Dedicated simplified PMIS Portal along with a dedicated mobile app, allowing users to easily filter opportunities by district, state, sector, and location radius.
- In Round 1 (Oct-Dec 2024), 280 companies across 25 sectors posted 1.27 lakh opportunities in 745 districts, leading to 82,000+ internship offers.
Expansion of the Scheme:
- Following the overwhelming response of over 6 lakh applications in Round 1, Round 2 (Jan-Mar 2025) offers 1.18 lakh+ internship opportunities across 735 districts in India, providing a valuable bridge between academic learning and industry expectations.
