Context:
The Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting launched Prasar Bharati – Shared Audio Visuals for Broadcast and Dissemination (PB-SHABD).
Key highlights of PB-SHABD
- It is a news sharing service from Prasar Bharati that will provide free content across mediums, which will be free of copyright or credit obligations.
- It will be a single-point source of news content for all print and electronic media industry of India.
- However, the content won’t be available to end users.
- The PB SHABD platform has been designed to provide daily news feeds in video, audio, text, photo and other formats to the subscribers from the media landscape.
- The shared feeds can be used for customized storytelling across different platforms.
- The service of PB-SHABD is being offered free of cost for the first year as an introductory offer and will provide news stories in all major Indian languages across 50 categories.
- Significance: This will revolutionise the news industry and will massively support smaller news organisations that do not have access to an extensive network for content gathering.
