Context

Recently, the Prime Minister of India laid foundation stones and inaugurated projects worth over ₹3,880 crore in Varanasi, focusing on infrastructure and connectivity.

  • Projects Inaugurated/ Foundation Laid:
    • A road bridge between Varanasi Ring Road and Sarnath, flyovers at Bhikharipur and Manduadih, and an underpass tunnel on NH-31 at Varanasi International Airport, worth over ₹980 crore.
    • Inaugurated two 400 KV and one 220 KV substations and related transmission lines in Jaunpur, Chandauli, and Ghazipur, worth over ₹1,045 crore.
    • Laid foundation stones for a 220 KV substation at Chaukaghat, a 132 KV substation in Ghazipur, and upgrades to the Varanasi city power distribution system, costing ₹775 crore.
    • A Transit Hostel at Police Line and barracks at PAC Ramnagar, and laid foundation stones for new police station buildings and a residential hostel.
    • Government Polytechnic College at Pindra, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Government College at Barki village, 356 rural libraries, and 100 Anganwadi centres.
    • Renovation of 77 primary schools under Smart City Mission and a new Kasturba Gandhi School building at Cholapur.
    • Laid foundation for a synthetic hockey turf with floodlights at Uday Pratap College and a mini stadium at Shivpur.
    • Inaugurated Redevelopment of Samne Ghat and Shastri Ghat along the Ganga River.
    • Inaugurated 130 rural water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission worth ₹345 crore.
    • Enhancement of six municipal wards, along with landscaping and sculpture installations  at various sites of Varanasi.
    • Laid the foundation stone for the MSME Unity Mall, infrastructure works under the Transport Nagar Scheme, a 1 MW solar plant at WTP Bhelupur, community halls in 40-gram panchayats, and beautification of parks in Varanasi.
    • Presented Geographical Indication (GI) certificates for items like tabla, paintings, thandai, tiranga barfi, and transferred ₹105 crore bonus to milk suppliers associated with Banas Dairy.
