Kallur Balan (Kerala’s Green Man)

  • Balan alias A V Balakrishnan (died at 75), a native of Mankara in Palakkad, an environmental activist had devoted his life to biodiversity conservation,  making significant contribution inadding greenery to the barren hills of Palakkad. 
  • He embraced the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru.
  • Kallur Balan’s decades-long efforts reforested over 100 acres of barren land converted 100 acres into a man-made forest at Ayyarmala in Palakkad, Kerala, creating a lasting ecological transformation. 
  • He embarked on his conservation mission in 2000 and was conferred with the state forest department’s Vanamitra (friend of the forest) award in 2011 for his contributions, from the Kerala state government. 
  • Balan expanded his focus beyond tree planting to address the growing presence of monkeys and pigs in the area.

N Biren Singh

  • He was born in 1961 in Imphal, Manipur, Singh holds a BA from Manipur University.
  • Nongthombam Biren Singh resigned as Manipur CM on Feb 9, nearly 21 months after ethnic violence between Manipuri communities which killed over 250 and displaced several thousands.
  • He was sworn in as the 12th Chief Minister of Manipur on March 15, 2017, becoming the first-ever BJP leader to become CM in the state.

Zakir Hussain

  • Zakir Husain (born Feb. 8, 1897, Hyderabad, India—died May 3, 1969, New Delhi).
  • The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu paid floral tributes to Dr Zakir Hussain, former President of India, on his birth anniversary at Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 8, 2025.
  • He was an Indian educationist and politician who served as the vice president of India from 1962 to 1967 and 3rd president of India from 13 May 1967 until his death on 3 May 1969. He was the first Muslim to hold this office and the first to die in office.

Sant Ravidas

  • A grand event of Sant Shiromani Ravidas Jayanti celebrations was held on 12 February across the country.
  • Guru Ravidas Jayanti marks the birthday of Ravidas and is celebrated on Magh Purnima, the full moon day in the month of Magh as per the Hindu calendar.
  • He is revered in Punjab due to his spirituality and works against casteism, his couplets and other poetry works have been included in Guru Granth Sahib. 
  • He was a mystic  poet who was one of the most renowned of the saints of the North Indian bhakti movement.
  • Ravidas was born in Seer Govardhanpur village, Uttar Pradesh

Sam Nujoma

  • The first president of independent Namibia, Sam Nujoma, has died at the age of 95 in the capital Windhoek.
  • Nujoma led the long fight for independence from South Africa in 1990 after helping found Namibia’s liberation movement known as the South West Africa People’s Organisation (Swapo) in the 1960s.
  • After independence, Nujoma became president in 1990 and led the country until 2005. 
  • Nujoma retired as head of state in 2005, but continued to lead the party before stepping down in 2007 as president of the ruling Swapo party after 47 years at the helm.
