About Panipat Gorakhpur Expressway

  • Objective: It aims to revolutionize connectivity between eastern Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
  • Design parameters: The total length of this expressway will be approximately 750 kilometers.
    • It will be a 4- to 6-lane high-speed corridor, expandable up to 8 lanes in the future.
    • The estimated cost of this mega project is approximately ₹15,000 crore.
  • Coverage in UP: The expressway will begin in Gorakhpur in eastern Uttar Pradesh, cross western Uttar Pradesh and through Shamli it will reach to Panipat in Haryana,
    • This will directly connect around 21 districts in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Significance: This expressway will speed up freight movement, significantly reduce logistics costs, and boost economic and industrial development across the region.
  • Seamless labour connectivity: This expressway will help facilitate employment opportunities for labourers from Uttar Pradesh in Panipat, which hosts more than 4,000 industrial units, including those in textiles, agro-based industries, wood and furniture manufacturing, and paper production.
