Context:
The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to push “culinary tourism” in the state with a view to promoting one local delicacy in each of the 75 districts as One District, One Cuisine.

- To highlight the diverse cuisines of Lucknow, the government is considering launching a “One District, One Cuisine” initiative, aimed at promoting a signature cuisine from each district.
- Until the Central government nominated Lucknow last month, Hyderabad was the only Indian city featured in UNESCO’s Creative City of Gastronomy list.
- A UNESCO team recently visited Lucknow following its nomination.

- The city’s nomination was selected from entries submitted worldwide, which is an achievement in itself.
- As part of the “One District, One Cuisine” initiative, at least one signature dish from each district will be showcased on social media, and food festivals featuring these local specialties will be organized in collaboration with hotels.
- Uttar Pradesh has the potential to become a major culinary tourism hub, as many of its famous delicacies—like Agra’s petha, Mathura’s peda, Banaras’s chaat, Sandila’s ladoo, and Lucknow’s Awadhi cuisine are already well-known globally.
