Recommendations on the Definition of International Traffic

Context:

Recently, The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released the Recommendations on the Definition of International Traffic.

  • TRAI has finalised the recommendations on the definition of International Traffic based on a Consultation Paper on the ‘Definition of International Traffic’ released in 2023, followed by stakeholder comments and counter-comments.
Key definitions under the recommendations:
  • International Traffic: Refers to the traffic originating in one country and terminating in another country, where one of the countries is India.
  • International SMS Message: Refers to the international traffic delivered via SMS.
  • International SMS: Any incoming application-to-person (A2P) SMS message shall be treated as an international SMS message if it cannot be generated, transmitted or received without the use of an electronic device, computer system, or application located outside India.
  • Domestic Traffic: Refers to traffic originating and terminating within India.
  • Domestic SMS: Refers to the domestic traffic delivered via SMS.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)
  • It was established in 1997 under the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997.
  • It regulates telecom services, including fixation and revision of tariffs, which were previously vested in the Central Government.

Youngest World Chess Champions

Context:

Recently, 18-year-old Gukesh Dommaraju became the youngest world chess champion ever.

Gukesh Dommaraju defeated titleholder Ding Liren of China in the 14th and final game of the FIDE World Chess Championship 2024 in Singapore. 

He broke the record held by the Russian Garry Kasparov for nearly four decades.

This was the first-ever World Championship match contested by two Asian countries. 

Gukesh is only the third Asian, after Vishwanathan Anand (2000) and Ding Liren to win the World championship.

Federation International des Echecs (FIDE) a World Chess Championship. 

The World Chess Championship is a match to determine the World Chess Champion, the highest title in chess.

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) is the governing body of chess and regulates all international chess competitions.  It is a non-governmental institution.

  • It was recognized by the International Olympic Committee as a Global Sporting Organization in 1999.

The first-ever World Chess Championship was held in 1886.

Su-30MKI Aircraft

Context:

Recently, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of 12 Su-30MKI aircraft.

  • The aircraft will have an Indigenous content of 62.6%, with many components to be indigenised and manufactured by the Indian defence industry.
  • These aircraft will be manufactured at the Nasik division of HAL
  • The procurement of these aircraft will enhance the operational capability of the Indian Air Force and strengthen the country’s defence preparedness.
Su-30MKI Aircraft

Su-30MKI is the first fighter in the world equipped with the phased-array radar.

It is a two-seater, multi-role, long-range fighter jet. 

Weapons control system provides: 

  • Reliable detection of aerial, ground, and water-surface targets beyond visual range 
  • Tracking of 15 aerial targets and simultaneous engagement of four of them

A variant of the Sukhoi Su-30, It is a heavy, all-weather, long-range Multirole fighter.

Originally developed by Russian aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi, it is now built under licence by HAL for the Indian Air Force.

Su-30MKI is the first in the world supermaneuverable combat aircraft in serial production

  • Supermaneuverability is achieved due to engines with thrust vectoring and a highly advanced fly-by-wire system. 

The first Russian-made Su-30 MKI variant entered the Indian Air Force in 2002 and the first indigenously assembled Su-30 MKI entered service in 2004.

22nd Divya Kala Mela

Context:

The 22nd Divya Kala Mela, a true embodiment of the ‘Vocal for Local’ movement, will be held from 12th to 22nd December 2024 at India Gate, New Delhi.

Divya Kala Mela

  • It is a movement which provides a national platform for the economic empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
  • Its first event was organized in New Delhi in 2022.

10th World Ayurveda Congress and Arogya Expo

Context:

The Union Ministry of Ayush, in collaboration with the World Ayurveda Foundation, is organising the 10th edition of the World Ayurveda Congress and Arogya Expo 2024 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

  • The focal theme of the Congress is “Digital Health-An Ayurveda Perspective”.
  • The 4-day event has over 5500 Indian delegates and more than 350 delegates from 54 countries registered to participate.
  • The event will feature over 150 scientific sessions and 13 associate events, including plenary sessions.
  • It will also feature technical sessions, panel discussions, an international delegates assembly, a health ministers’ conclave, an investors’ meeting, and satellite seminars.
The World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) and Arogya Expo
  • Since its inception in 2002 in Kochi, the WAC has been a torchbearer for the Ayurveda community.
  • The biennial event is organised by the World Ayurveda Foundation (WAF).
World Ayurveda Foundation
  • Established in 2011, as an initiative by Vijnana Bharati aimed at global propagation of Ayurveda.
