- It was first observed in 1992, at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH).
WFMH is an international membership organization founded in 1948 to promote the advancement of mental health awareness, prevention of mental disorders, advocacy, and best practice recovery focused interventions worldwide.
World Habitat Day 2024
Context: Recently, the World Habitat Day was observed on 7th October.

- This day has been marked on the first Monday of October each year since it was first celebrated in 1986.
- Aims to address the challenges and opportunities of rapid urbanization by focusing on the active involvement of young people in shaping sustainable cities and communities.
Malabar Exercises 2024
Context: India is hosting the 28th edition of multinational maritime Malabar Exercises from October 8 to 18, 2024.

- This annual exercise first started in the year 1992 as a bilateral exercise between the United States and India.
- Australia hosted the 27th edition of the exercise.
- It will be conducted in two distinct phases both at Harbour and at Sea.
- It will witness live weapon firings, complex surface, anti-air and anti-submarine warfare drills and joint manoeuvres.
- Participating countries: India, United States, Japan (joined in 2015) and Australia (joined in 2020).
- The exercise is aligned with the Indian Government’s vision of Security & Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).
IBSAMAR VIII
Context: Indian Naval Ship Talwar departed for South Africa to participate in the 8th edition of the joint multinational maritime exercise IBSAMAR.

- It is a joint multinational maritime exercise among Indian, Brazilian and South African Navies scheduled from October 6 to 18, 2024.
- It was first initiated in 2008 and held every two years.
- The exercise rotates leadership among the three participating nations, with South Africa serving as the permanent host due to its strategic geographical location.
The previous edition of IBSAMAR VII was also conducted in South Africa in 2022.
- The broad concept of exercise is based on Blue Water Naval Warfare, encompassing the dimensions of Surface and Anti-Air Warfare.
- It provides a platform for the naval forces of participating countries to conduct diverse exercises, both ashore and at sea, enhancing interoperability and strengthening maritime security.
