- The 10th Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee designated May 11 as National Technology Day (NTD) in India.
- The day commemorates the Pokhran nuclear tests conducted by the Indian Army in Rajasthan, in 1998.
- The inaugural celebration of NTD was organized by the Council for Technology on May 11, 1999. Since then, India has observed NTD every year on 11 May.
- The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar was also announced on NTD.
- This year’s theme is “School to Startups – Inspiring Young Minds to Innovate” as is chosen by the Technology Development Board (TDB).
- The theme aims to inspire young minds to innovate and guide them towards the path of establishing their startup.
