Context:
Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government has signed an agreement with Tata Technologies Limited (TTL) for the upgradation of 62 state ITIs and 5 centers for invention, innovation, incubation and training (CIIIT) in the state.
- This is the second phase of the agreement made by the state government with TTL, Whereas the first phase agreement was signed on February 2023 by the Uttar Pradesh Council of Ministers between TTL and the State Government (Department of Vocational Education and Skill Development).
- Under Phase 2, 62 ITIs and 5 Centers for Invention, Innovation, Incubation & Training (CIIITs) will be upgraded to train about 10,000 trainees per year.
- Training will focus on Electric Vehicles, Advanced CNC Machining, 3D Printing, and Industrial Robotics.
- Tata Technologies will deploy two trainers for the first two years and one master trainer for the third and fourth years at each institute.
- Tata Technologies has signed a 10-year MoU with the Uttar Pradesh government to modernize government ITIs across 75 districts.
- The upgrade will meet advanced skill needs, support large industries and MSMEs, and transform ITIs into technology hubs and skill centers.
- The training is being designed in such a way that the youth of Uttar Pradesh can flaunt their skills not only in the state but also in the entire country and abroad.
Under Phase-1
- MoUs were signed for the modernization of 150 State ITIs on February 2023 in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
- A total investment of Rs. 4887 crore was made, with the State Government contributing Rs. 713 crore.
- In 2024, 11,407 trainees were enrolled in 149 institutes against an intake capacity of 13,808. Training began in 3 out of 11 long-term trades.
Role of Tata Technologies
- The company is making rapid progress in the semiconductor manufacturing sector, creating new job opportunities.
- Training has begun by setting up labs in 149 ITIs in Phase 1 and will extend adding 62 ITIs in Phase 2.
- Training will be provided in 7 long-term and 15 short-term professions at each ITI.
- 8 trainers will be deployed at CIIIT institutes for 5 years.
