Recently, the legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty was announced as the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for 2022.

  • This accolade, to be presented at the 70th National Film Awards on October 8, 2024, recognizes his remarkable contributions to Indian cinema over nearly five decades.
  • The award announcement was made by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who emphasized Chakraborty’s dual legacy as both an iconic actor and a dedicated philanthropist. 

About Dadasaheb Phalke Award: 

  • The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was introduced by the Government of India in 1969, to commemorate Dadasaheb Phalke’s contribution to Indian cinema 
  • He directed India’s first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra in 1913. 
  • The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest honour in cinema. The recipients are recognized for their ‘outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema’.

  • A Shawl
  • A cash prize of ₹10 Lakh (US$12,000)
  • The first recipient of the award was actress Devika Rani Chaudhri, who was honoured at the 17th National Film Awards in 1969.
