Context:
Recently, the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare (DoAFW) launched the digital geospatial platform, Krishi-Decision Support System.
More on the news
- DoAFW organizes a one-day Conference on “Space-Driven Solutions for Agricultural Transformation in India.
- This platform was launched to commemorate the successful launch of the Chandrayaan-3 Mission.
- The government of India has declared the 23rd Day of August of every year as National Space Day (NSpD) aftermath of successfully landing of the Vikram Lander and deploying the Pragyaan Rover on the Moon as part of the Chandrayaan-3 Mission.
- The government launched the programme with the theme “Touching lives while touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga”
Chandrayaan 3
It is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-2, is an ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) mission with the primary objective of putting a lander and rover in the highlands near the south pole of the Moon and demonstrating end-to-end landing and roving capabilities.
- The conference showcased the latest advancements in satellite remote sensing, and Geo-spatial technology and their applications in precision agriculture, crop monitoring, disaster management, and soil health management.
- The conference underscored the importance of collaboration between the government, private sector, and academia in accelerating the adoption of space technology in agriculture.
About the Krishi-Decision Support System
- Krishi-DSS is a first-of-its-kind geospatial platform specifically designed for Indian agriculture.
- It will provide seamless access to comprehensive data including satellite images, weather information, reservoir storage, groundwater levels, and soil health information, which can be easily accessed from anywhere at any time.
- Drought monitoring will help to stay ahead of the drought, which gives near real-time information on various indicators like soil moisture, water storage, crop condition, dry spells etc.
- The ground truth data library of Krishi-DSS will foster innovation by providing essential resources like ground truth data and spectral libraries for different crops to the researchers and industry.
