Context: 

Recently, Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju launched the Jiyo Parsi scheme Portal aimed at addressing the declining Parsi population in India. 

Significance of the Portal:

  • The objective to reverse the declining trend of Parsi population by adopting a scientific protocol and structured interventions and to stabilize their population. 
  • According to the 2011 Census of India, there are 57,264 Parsis in India.
  • This online platform allows Parsi couples to apply for financial assistance, check application statuses, and receive funds through Direct Benefit Transfer.
  • The newly launched portal simplifies the application process, enabling more Parsi couples to efficiently access the benefits of the scheme.
  • This portal preserves the rich heritage and culture of the Parsi community while addressing their population concerns.
  • Since its inception in 2013-14, the scheme has successfully supported over 400 Parsi children, showcasing its positive impact on the community.

Components of the Jiyo Parsi Scheme:

  • The Jiyo Parsi scheme comprises three essential components aimed at supporting the Parsi community:

(a) Medical Assistance: Under this component, financial assistance is provided to Parsi couples for medical treatment following standard medical protocols. 

(b) Health of Community: This component focuses on providing financial assistance to Parsi couples for childcare and support for elderly individuals. 

(c) Advocacy: The advocacy component includes outreach programs designed to generate awareness among the Parsi population to generate awareness among the Parsi Population.
