Context:
Noida’s upcoming international airport underwent a key DGCA flight test on October 27 and is ready to begin operations soon.
- CM of U.P stated that the Noida International Airport will symbolize UP’s development, stressing that quality, timeliness, and coordination must remain priorities.
About Jewar Airport
- The airport is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a 100% subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, in close partnership with Government of Uttar Pradesh and Government of India.
- It is the greenfield airport at Jewar, which will enhance connectivity to and from Delhi NCR, Noida and Western UP.
- Coverage: When fully developed, the Jewar airport will cover 11,750 acres and feature five runways, capable of handling up to 300 million passengers per year , making it one of the largest airports in the world.
- Sustainable and green design: The airport plans to use solar panels and waste recycling systems along with water conservation and rainwater harvesting
- Hub of digital connectivity: It will feature a dual-fibre-optic network to ensure seamless, secure data connectivity.
- Two independent datacentres are being established at different locations.
- Smart vehicle tracking through Licence plate recognition and driver imaging cameras will enhance both security and passenger convenience.
Civil Aviation in UP
- Uttar Pradesh currently has 24 airports, 16 of which are operational.
- In the last 07 years, 11 airports (Prayagraj, Hindon, Bareilly, Kushinagar, Kanpur, Ayodhya, Aligarh, Azamgarh, Shravasti, Chitrakoot & Moradabad) have been developed by the State Government
- 3 more airports (Saharanpur, Agra & Lalitpur) are under development.
- With functional Jewar Airport, State will soon become the only one to boast of 05 international airports in India.
