India to receive its first guided-missile warship, INS Tushil, from Russia by the end of November 2024 at Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad.
- India signed a deal in 2018 to procure four Grigorovich-class frigates; two are imported from Russia with a $1 billion deal for direct purchase and two will be built in India.
- Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) is manufacturing two frigates, with deliveries expected in 2026 and 2027.
- INS Tushil, the first of two Krivak or Talwar-class stealth frigates and India already operates six similar Russian-built frigates.
- The second frigate, INS Tamal, will be delivered early next year. Both stealth frigates will be equipped with advanced weaponry, including BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.
