Recently, The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy announced plans to replicate the PM-KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar schemes in Africa and island nations through the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to promote clean energy.

International Solar Alliance (ISA)
- conceptualised by India and France on the sidelines of the UNFCCC COP21, Paris (2015).
- Headquartered in Gurugram, India. Currently, 100+ countries are signatories, with 90+ countries having ratified to become full members.
- Its mission is to unlock $1 trillion in solar investments by 2030 while reducing technology and financing costs.
- The move aims to provide off-grid communities with irrigation access, energy security, and clean power, strengthening India’s leadership in distributed renewable energy.
- African nations are seeking to replicate India’s solar pump success story, and the ISA will help create a collective platform to support large-scale adoption.
- The ISA is developing a financing and risk-mitigation framework through the Africa Solar Facility, to attract private investment in distributed renewable energy projects.
- The facility aims to leverage $200 million by next year and mobilise up to 20 times that amount from private capital for solar pumps, rooftop systems, and mini-grids.
