Context:

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is hosting the ‘Global IndiaAI Summit’ scheduled for July 3rd and 4th, 2024, in New Delhi.

More on the News: 

  • This summit is being organized to encourage cooperation and knowledge sharing, highlighting India’s commitment to ethically and inclusively advancing AI technologies. 
  • India, as the chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), will also host member countries and experts to achieve GPAI’s goal of ensuring AI is safe, secure, and trustworthy.

About the Global IndiaAI Summit 2024: 

  • The summit will serve as a forum where prominent AI experts from global science, industry, civil society, governments, international organizations, and academia can exchange insights on crucial AI issues and challenges.
  • Through this summit, India seeks to establish itself as a leader in AI innovation, ensuring that AI benefits reach everyone and contribute to the country’s socio-economic progress.

IndiaAI Mission: 

  • The government’s vision of ‘Making AI in India’ and ‘Making AI work for India’ led to the approval of the IndiaAI Mission in March, with a budget of Rs 10,371.92 crore. 

This mission aims to build a comprehensive ecosystem to promote AI and aims to: –

  • Create a robust AI ecosystem by democratizing computing access 
  • Improving data quality, developing local AI capabilities 
  • Supporting startups with capital, promoting socially beneficial AI projects 
  • Advocating for ethical AI practices. 

Key Pillars of the IndiaAI Mission:

  • IndiaAI Compute Capacity: Creating a scalable AI computing ecosystem with over 10,000 GPUs through partnerships. An AI marketplace will offer AI services and pre-trained models, serving as a central hub for essential AI resources.
  • IndiaAI Innovation Centre: Focused on developing indigenous large multimodal models (LMMs) and domain-specific foundational models tailored to India’s diverse industries.
  • IndiaAI Datasets Platform: Simplifying access to high-quality non-personal datasets for AI innovation through a unified platform accessible to Indian startups and researchers.
  • IndiaAI Application Development Initiative: Promoting AI solutions in critical sectors by addressing problem statements from Central Ministries and State Departments to drive large-scale socio-economic transformation.
  • IndiaAI FutureSkills: Enhancing AI education accessibility by expanding courses and establishing Data and AI Labs in Tier 2 and 3 cities to cultivate skilled AI professionals.
  • IndiaAI Startup Financing: Supporting deep-tech AI startups with streamlined funding access to foster innovation and economic growth.
  • Safe & Trusted AI: Promoting responsible AI development with indigenous tools, frameworks, and guidelines for ethical and transparent AI technologies.
