Context:
Mongolia is hosting the 21st edition of the multinational joint military exercise Khaan Quest.
About the exercise:
- The exercise first started as a bilateral event between the USA and Mongolian Armed Forces in the year 2003.
Subsequently, from 2006 onwards the exercise graduated to a Multinational Peacekeeping Exercise. - Exercise KHAAN QUEST provides a platform for the participating countries to share their best practices in Tactics, Techniques and Procedures for the conduct of joint operations.
Features of the exercise:
- The exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 27th July to 9th August 2024 at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
- The Indian Army contingent will participate in the 21st edition of the multinational joint military exercise Khaan Quest 2024.
The last edition of Exercise KHAAN QUEST was also conducted in Mongolia. - Tactical drills to be practiced during the exercise will include the establishment of static and mobile checkpoints, cordon and search operations, patrolling, evacuation of civilians from hostile areas, counter-improvised explosive device drills, combat first-aid and casualty evacuation.
- The Indian Army contingent comprising 40 personnel is being represented mainly by the Battalion of the Madras Regiment.
Objective of the exercise
- The aim of the exercise is to prepare the Indian Armed Forces for peacekeeping missions while operating in a multinational environment, by increasing interoperability and military readiness in peace support operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
