Recently, the Union Education Minister announced the establishment of three Artificial Intelligence (AI) Centres of Excellence (CoEs) focused on healthcare, agriculture and sustainable cities.

- The CoE in healthcare will be led by IIT Delhi and AIIMS, the agriculture CoE by IIT Ropar, and the sustainable cities CoE by IIT Kanpur.
- As part of the vision to “Make AI in India and Make AI work for India”, the establishment of these centres was announced in the Budget Announcement for 2023-24.
- The total financial outlay for this initiative is ₹990 crore over five years, from FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28.
