Context: The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to build ‘Bharat Path,’ a spiritual corridor that will link to Bharatkund.

  • The project is estimated to cost approximately Rs 900 crore, and the Public Works Department (PWD) has submitted a proposal for approval.
  • The route is designed to provide devotees with better access.
  • After the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, there has been a significant increase in the number of devotees, with lakhs of visitors from across India and abroad arriving daily.
  • To manage the growing footfall and ensure smooth and safe traffic flow, the government is implementing several infrastructure projects.
  • These include the construction and expansion of key routes such as Ram Path, Bhakti Path, Janmabhoomi Path, andnow Bharat Path.
  • Additionally, work is ongoing to widen the Panchkosi and Chaudahkosi Parikrama routes.
  •  The Bharat Path will span nearly 20 km, starting at the Ranopali railway crossing along Ram Path and extending to Bharatkund via Vidyakund and Darshan Nagar on the Prayagraj Highway.
  • Currently a two-lane road, the plan is to expand it with 9-meter lanes on both sides and a 2.5-meter central divider.
  • This design will ensure a smooth, safe, and well-organized road for traffic management.
  • The development of Bharat Path is planned to follow the model of Ram Path, offering devotees an enhanced experience.

About Bharatkund:

  • Bharatkund holds significant importance in the Ramayana. It is believed that during Lord Ram’s exile, his younger brother Bharat performed penance here for 14 years.
  • Upon Lord Ram’s return from exile, he conducted the ‘Pind Daan’ ceremony for their father, King Dasharatha, at this site, it is believed. 
  • The location is also home to a sacred mythological lake that attracts numerous devotees.
  • Many pilgrims, particularly from eastern Uttar Pradesh and Prayagraj, visit Bharatkund for darshan and worship.
  • With the development of Bharat Path, devotees will have easier access, making their journey to Ayodhya more convenient.
