Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister announced the “Zero Poverty” program, named after Dr. BR Ambedkar, aiming to provide the underprivileged with basic amenities and welfare schemes.

  • The program will initially reach 14 to 15 lakh families, advancing Ambedkar’s vision of social and economic empowerment through education.
  • The scheme is named after Ambedkar as a tribute to his philosophy of educational, social, and economic empowerment.
  • The ‘Zero Poverty’ programme is designed to ensure that no underprivileged individual is deprived of basic amenities or access to government welfare schemes.
  • Over the past years, significant efforts have been made to extend these benefits to marginalised communities such as the Musahar, Tharu, Vantangiya, Kol, Buksa, Chero, Gond, and Sahariya.
    • Those who have gained access to land, housing, toilets, pensions, ration cards, and Ayushman Bharat health coverage.
  • The Chief Minister also announced that gram panchayat committees overseeing community toilets would receive a monthly honorarium.
