The Indian Navy’s second of four advanced Survey Vessel (Large) ships, INS Nirdeshak, which has over 80% indigenous content, will be commissioned at Visakhapatnam.
- INS Nirdeshak is the second of four advanced Survey Vessel (Large) ships delivered by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) to the Indian Navy.
- It is designed by the Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and built to the Indian Register of Shipping standards.
- Equipped for coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys and oceanographic and geophysical data collection for defense and civil applications.
- Dimensions: 110 meters long, displacement of approximately 3,400 tonnes.
- Advanced Equipment: Includes a data acquisition system, autonomous underwater vehicle, remotely operated vehicle, long-range DGPS, and digital side scan sonar.
- Powered by two diesel engines, capable of speeds over 18 knots.
- Delivery highlights India’s commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) and strengthens maritime capabilities in the Indian Ocean Region.
