Context
India and Bhutan recently held discussions on hydropower projects, including the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II hydropower project, and expressed satisfaction as it is “approaching completion.”

- Both sides reiterated continued collaboration on multiple fronts, including the Gelephu Mindfulness City project which will bring prosperity and well-being in Bhutan and also the border areas, and further strengthen economy and investment linkages between the two countries.
About the Project
- The project is located on the right bank of Punatsangchhu river.
- The nearest railway station is at Hasimara on Siliguri-Alipurduar Broad Gauge line of NEF Railway. The project area is also accessible from Bagdogra Airport near Siliguri.
- It is funded by the Government of India (GoI): 30% grant and 70% loan at 10% annual interest.
- The project authority will be dissolved within two years of commissioning, and the project will be transferred to the Royal Government of Bhutan.
